The apartment has just been refurbished to a very good standard maintaining all the original features. It is cool and comfortable, and the garden is to die for - much bigger than you would expect in Venice - and beautifully presented by the owners. The house itself is very old and has an original well in the entrance area. Santa Croce is the oldest sestiere of Venice where most of the oldest faculties of the University are to be found, as well as the Scuola di San Giovanni Evangelista. Only a few minutes from the beautiful Ca d'Oro and two minutes from the Rio Marin Canal where you can have a drink and pose in one of the nicest bars in Venice - Ai Postali - a canalside cafe or in Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio where you can also feel like a real Venetian drinking a Spritz con cicheti under the ample shade of the plane trees. Babysitting can be arranged on request. The owners have two other apartments (v191 and v220) available in the same building, and also own v138. Our comment: I love this apartment - it's so quiet and the walled garden gives it an "ancient" feel. The position is obviously slightly off the beaten track, but surrounded by many historical buildings such as the churches of San Giacomo all'Orio, San Simeon Grande and la Chiesa dei Frari, and Ca'Pesaro, the prestigious modern art gallery and museum. There are lots of local shops close by, or within 10 minutes you can be at Rialto buying your fish for the day....... Facilities: washing machine, central heating, two fans, TV, oven. Babysitting can be arranged on request.
