...First to recognise the island's potential was an Italian property consortium, which bought up the derelict site of a German clock factory and is in the process of creating 10 apartment blocks with gardens and even new canals. The complex is known as Judeca Nova and the gleaming white buildings, all chrome balconies and plate-glass windows, are more reminiscent of London's Docklands than traditional Venice. Expect to pay anywhere between €165,000 and €275,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.
